Many people think orthodontic treatment is only for preteens, teens, and adults. However, orthodontic evaluations can be scheduled as young as seven years old, and while patients may not receive treatment at that point in time, an early consultation can be very helpful for our team to begin designing a child’s custom, comprehensive treatment plan.
To learn more about our services or schedule your child’s consultation, please contact us, and we will be glad to assist.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around age seven. At this stage, an orthodontist can identify developing issues with jaw growth, spacing, or bite alignment. While not every child needs treatment right away, an early exam helps us decide the best timing. Some children may benefit from early intervention, while others can safely wait until more permanent teeth come in before beginning full orthodontic treatment. Early monitoring sets the foundation for a healthy smile.
Not every child needs early orthodontic treatment, but in some cases, it is very beneficial. Phase 1 treatment can correct problems such as crossbites, severe crowding, or jaw growth issues before they become more complicated. By addressing these concerns early, we can often prevent extractions or surgery later. For children without significant problems, treatment may be delayed until adolescence. A professional orthodontic evaluation allows us to determine whether early intervention is necessary or if observation is the best approach.
