How Are Clear Aligners Made?

In the past, bulky metal braces were the only way to straighten your smile. Thanks to modern technology, you have more options, from sleek metal braces to transparent ceramic to removable clear aligners. At Meason Orthodontics, we offer braces and Invisalign® clear aligners. Read on if you’re curious about these aligners and how they’re made.

What Are Clear Aligners?

With Invisalign clear aligner therapy, we use a series of clear aligners to gently straighten your teeth. Clear aligners are smooth and comfortable, easy to clean, and inconspicuous. You take them out to eat and to brush your teeth. For the best results, you should wear them for 20-22 hours per day. They can address mild to moderate alignment issues. If your alignment problems are more severe, you will likely benefit from the power and versatility of traditional braces.

How Are Clear Aligners Made?

Once we know that Invisalign will work for you, we’ll take digital impressions of your smile. The iTero scanner also reveals what your smile will look like after completion of your aligner therapy! An expert Invisalign lab then utilizes your digital impression to carefully craft your custom aligners so they fit perfectly. The material, known as SmartTrack, is designed for comfort, speed, and control. Invisalign spent 8 years developing SmartTrack to deliver efficient results!

Once your clear aligners are ready, they’re sent to our office so you can start your treatment. About every two weeks, you’ll replace the aligners with the next trays in your treatment plan. The average treatment time for clear aligners is around 12-18 months, but you may start seeing positive changes in only a few weeks!
